Hmm, well I don’t usually study Starbuck’s price adjustments ever so i wouldn’t really be the right person to ask in this situation. If Starbuck’s mentioned somewhere that they’d be raising their base prices anywhere from 5-20 cents then it probably has to do with their commodities that they commonly purchase, i.e. coffee beans. In the last 18 months coffee has skyrocketed as a commodity, and even with the small dip in the last few months, coffee seems to be back on it’s way up the hill. Still it’s not in the position that it was in 2011, but coffee seems to be getting more and more expensive these days. As for your actual question of semantics, it would seem that the price of a coffee at any size you purchase would suffer from additional sales taxes, so that could account for the extra 13 cents you weren’t expecting in your recent expenditure.
